Dental Technology and Anxiety-free Dentistry
We know that visiting the dentist can be stressful and may be the source of major fear and anxiety. That’s not just for infants and young children visiting the dentist, however. Many adults also have a fear of the dentist, which can leave them quite jittery and ill at ease. There is no shame in this. Our Orange County cosmetic dentists understand that this sense of trepidation can be unnerving, but that’s why we offer a number of different dental care solutions for dealing with this problem.
How Dental Anxiety Affects Dental Health
When a person has a fear of the dentist, it can make treatment very difficult. That patient may not be able to sit still while in a dentist’s chair, which could make otherwise routine dental treatments unsafe for a person. In some cases, these patients may avoid visiting the dentist altogether, meaning that they skip basic or necessary cosmetic dentistry and general dentistry work. Dental problems may be exacerbated by such neglect.
Dental Anxiety and Dental Care Options
Thankfully, getting the dental care you need is not so difficult. We are proud to offer Orange County sedation dentistry in order to meet the needs of patients. With sedation dentistry, you will be put at ease during your visit and your dentist will be able to perform the dental work you need without any possibility of injuring you.
A Sensible Solution to Dental Anxiety
When you meet with our Orange County cosmetic dentistry experts, they’ll let you know which option for sedation dentistry will best meet your needs. There are different levels and degrees to consider, and your dental sedation will be tailored to your needs just as a regular dental care treatment would. During your consultation, we’ll make the best decision that will help you get the best possible dental care.
How Sedation Dentistry Works
There are two options for dental sedation that we offer: oral sedation and nitrous oxide sedation. Prior to any sedative being administered, we’ll be sure to test your reaction to dental sedation options. This will help ensure no adverse reactions to the sedative that we intend to use.
With oral sedation, a patient is instructed to take an oral sedative a few hours prior to their dental visit. This sedative will place the patient in a relaxed state for their visit. The patient should arrange for someone to drive them to and from the dental visit.
With nitrous oxide sedation, a patient is given laughing gas to inhale in order to reduce any fear and anxiety.
